How is halo 3 exp tracked?

Is the exp in halo 3 tracked by if you participate in a match? Because sometimes I dont get exp. However, I have noticed if I get 1-3 place I get exp. Is there a game-type that allows me to get exp every time? Also, what is a good way to get the overkill achievment and the killing spree one. If you can help my gamertag is FalseShihzu

you get 1 exp point for every match you win on any kind of team game, or 1 xp if you get first, second, or third in any free for all playlist. the best way I found is to just ask people if they wanna do achievements, sometimes you'll get lucky and sometimes you won't.

For free for all matches the top 3 people get exp
For team matches the winning team gets the exp
What I did to get those achievements was to play on ranked lone wolves because you can only get those achievement that way.
