How long does it take to get from skill level 47 to 48 in Halo 3?

I had played for 2 weeks of lone wolves (around 2 hours a day, 4 or 5 on weekends) getting 3rd or higher 14/15 times, and i hadn't gone up at all...
So I was wondering how long it's supposed to take, or how to get it up, cuz winning doesn't seem to work...
that's what i figured, but comming 1st every 10/15 aint bad so its just screwed up in general...

when you reach your highest level you have EVER gotten, you have to regain ALL your losses. it sucks, but thats how bungie programmed it, but its only like that to an extent. you may have to get in higher than 3rd to get a 48 because it gives you more xp, so try your hardest.
