I bought halo3 ODST without knowing it was diff than halo 3. Should I return it?

I bought Halo 3 ODST and didn't realize that it wasn't the actual game... I've heard good and bad. For the multiplayer disc, is that the exact same thing as halo 3? Besides the campaign? Because I know that there is a seperate disc for campaign play... And should I return it and just get the regular halo 3? THANKS!:)
And would it be stupid or a waste of money to just keep ODST and to buy halo 3?
