Where did you hear this? IMDB still has it as a "go" and I can't find any websites that say otherwise.

Last year they had problems with Peter Jackson wanting too much money mixed with his fight over LOTR money he says he's owed, but they never canceled the project, simply took Jackson's name off it (for now).
