Is Halo 3: ODST an actual game or is it an add-on to Halo 3?

I'm thinking of pre-ordering it but I need to know this first...

it is a full game, the next halo after that is halo reach and that is the last one

It is a stand alone Expansion that does not require halo 3 to play, it only adds a short new campaign, a horde mode, and all of the multiplayer maps + 3 new maps.

It is a whole new game except the multiplayer is the exact same as Halo 3 except with 3 whole new maps. Since Halo ODST does not have the matchmaking feature that Halo 3 has all the armor you gain in ODST will be transfered to your Halo 3 Matchmaking account.
