BS!!! ok so ill tell you wat happens if u beat game on legendary. the ship arbitor and master chief try going to earth on splits into 2. arbitor lands on earth and is congratulated by the captain and then his ship comes and arbitor leaves in space looking for a new planet. master chief id in space floating and he knows that he might die without food etc, so he goes into a little pod and preserves himself by telling cortana to perserve him. then while floating into space....ANOTHER HALO shines and is ready to fire meaning HALO 4 is a secret game coming out later.

no, he goes into a cryopod(like the one he awakes from in halo: combat evolved) so he can live till someone finds their engineless ship('they' are master chief and cortana)
