Problem with Halo 3 GamerTag Recovery and Live ID PLEASE Help?

I'm at my friends house trying to recover my gamer tag so we can both play when i typed in the e-mail address i used when signing up for live it brings up a separate account the account is the name of my zune and I'm afraid it somehow got crossed over and i may have lost it permanently please any help you can give would be much appreciated
