Problem with Halo PC!

Ok I am trying to play Halo CE for PC with my xbox 360 wired controller. When I plug the controller in and go to the settings and try to select gamepad it wont let me, its like it doesent even recognize that the controller is plugged in. I have downloaded the driver for the controller so its ok. If you can help me with my problem please do so.
