question about halo 3 online xbox live?

on live, im a 22 lieutenant (gr. 2) and next to my gamertag, it shows this weird star-ish shaped thing.

a lot of people have it too and it shows up in the lobby before the game starts.

first off, why is it there, and how did i get it?
becuase i really dont know, it just popped up there one day.

It's not a star, It's the seventh column symbol. Bungie has an obsession with the number 7 and that's the symbol they made for it. If you register on bungie.net, it automatically appears next to your tag.

i think these people are wrong and dude your a gunnery sergant grade 2 not a lietenant and it means your rank in that playlist a star is a general or something i think
