What do name colors mean in Halo 3?

When I join a game in Lone Wolves there are many people with different colored names? What does each color signify or is it unlocked via achievements of some sort? I'm new to Xbox so sorry if this is a dumb question!

Those colors are the colors that the person's character is. For example, if you want master chief to be blue the name will be blue.
