What is the symmetric and asymmetric setting for objects in Halo 3 ?

The setting says it determines whether the object spawns in symmetric or asymmetric games. What does that mean? Are there certain game types that are symmetric, and other asymmetric? If so, which game types are symmetric and which ones are asymmetric? If otherwise, please tell me the difference.

A symmetric gametype is something like Two-Flag CTF, where both teams get equal chances at scoring, at the same time. An asymmetric game is one where a team attacks, and another defends, like Assault or One-Flag CTF. Setting an item to spawn in one type or another means that it will only spawn during that type of game, not all the time.
