Why can't I rank up in Halo 3?

My experience is currently at 0. I am playing ranked matches (Team Slayer/Objective and Lone Wolves, I have played around 80 ranked matches and have won 3/4 of them, and have not gotten any skill at all. In the beginning I was playing wireless and got disconnected, so my experience would go negative right? But it didn't it is still at 0. I have played and won as many ranked games as I got disconnected from so I don't see how I am not going up. Please help! Thanks in advance.
