Why did Season 2 receive a stronger critical reception than Season 1?

From my own perspective after watching both the season 1 and 2 of Halo TV shows, I would say that there was so many pitfalls in season 2. The biggest one was having Master Chief be out of his amour for a long time in show. Also, his obsession with Makee in didn't go well with me.

What are your own thoughts about this?
