Why is Halo 3 mature?

My nephew bought an XBOX 360 for his birthday and I asked what he wants me to buy for him.He answered Halo 3,but I told him that this game is for tenagers aged 17+.He told me that there is no problem,because he has already played gears of war 2 at a friend's house.What should I do?As long as I know it hasn't much violence.I also know it has mild language.Words lie what(write the first letter,and then use *)

Well its a shooting game with aliens and its not as gorey or anything like gears 2 but as far as language stuff like D*** and A** gears has words like F*** and S*** so its a step down in alot of stuff.
