Why will the Halo 1 Free Trial not run in Vista?

I tried to download and play this game on my laptop, but when I try to play, it opens up a DOS window, and I cannot get the game to play. Is there not an updated version for Vista? I've tried Google - ing this, but get the same results when looking for an update.

I have a vista and the trail works fine and mine isnt updated, I would try to download a patch from the halo website.
