will halo 2 work on an xbox 360?

i am gonna buy the basic xbox 360 (don't try to change my mind to buy the more expensive one's) and im trying to figure out the approx. total cost, and i don't want halo 3, i want to get halo 2, will it work on my 360 with out buying anything else, or if i do have to buy something please suggest something under 20$ if possiblethnaks!

Yes all the old xbox games should work on the Xbox 360. So Halo 2 and and Halo should work.

no xbox games dont work on the basic 360 system. and you wouldnt be able to save your game anyways. if you have a good computer you could buy halo2 for that although the controls are a little choppy. otherwise youd need the 360 that comes with everything.
