xbox live for halo 3?

every time i try to play halo 3 it say's "xbox live is not allowed on this profile. i have xbox live silver. do i need to upgrade. or change my settings

Idk what some of these people are talking about, I have a silver account and I can play my games on live, I just can't download videos, becuase it costs extra, or you need the gold account, but i can download game demos and the free themes and play halo
