Broken Halo 3 Disc/Blockbuster Swap?

Ok here's my problem.
A few months ago my xbox cracked my halo 3 disc while it was playing and it hasn't worked since, until today. I just put it in to see if I would get lucky, and it ended up working! So I can start up the game fine but when it comes to playing the campaign mode, after completing each level, it says the disc is unreadable and so I have to restart my xbox and open it again and start on the next level. So here's what I though I could do. I was going to go to blockbuster and rent Halo 3 and take it home and install it to my hard drive, then take it back and use my broken disc to start up the game (because I know my xbox can tell it's Halo3 because its starting up fine. And that's all it needs to know to start the installed version, right?) So basically my question is my disc can start up the Halo 3 fine but when it comes to playing some levels it freezes, so can I rent Halo 3 from blockbuster and install it to my hard drive then just use my broken disc to start it up and everything will be fine?? Thanks in advanced!

GO in, rent the game, quick swap it out with your cracked one and go back in less than 20 minutes, say, i just rented this, took it out of the case, and its cracked, they will swap it out for a different copy and blame the ppl b4 you that rented it for it. :D

Um I doubt it... playing off the disc or game on the hard drive are two different things.. they don't work in sync.. You can either play the game using the disk or playing the game using the saved game on the harddrive..
