Can a Halo newbie start with 2 or 3?

I'm buying an xbox 360 for my daughter because she wants Halo. If I remember correctly, Halo was made for the Xbox right? Is the 360 backwards compatible?

Also does this game follow a storyline that makes it necessary to go in order (1,2,3) or can someone who's never played before just start with Halo 2 or 3 and skip the first one?

Last question. If I buy the 360 pro, is there anything else that I need to purchase or can she just start playing?

TIA

Yes that is correct the Xbox 360 can play old Xbox games, but there are no achievements for them, you don't necessarily need to buy the old ones and can just buy Halo 3 but halo 1 and 2 are pretty cheap now so getting them all would be a good idea, but if you can just buy 3 and figure out what's going on.

The 360 pro is pretty much all you need except for internet which you might need an internet connection for and a router of some sort.

I would recommend Halo 1 first, to see if she likes the story, and it's probably the cheapest of the three seeing as it's older.
As for Multiplayer, try 2 first. Multiplayer on 3 is rather fast paced and people aren't the nicest. And since 2 probably has less people playing, she might be able to have time to get used to the controls a bit better and the rules of Multiplayer games without being left in the dark.

Also, for playing online, if you have a Wireless router and it's rooms away from where the Xbox will be, you'll need an adapter. I can't really remember the price however, but it shouldn't be too much.

Halo 1, and 2 where made for the original xbox. Halo 3, for the xbox 360. the 360 is backwards compatible with some games including halo 1 and 2. there is a story line that would be best if you played the story in order. And with all the halo games there is something called co-op which means you could play the story with your daughter. There is also an online multiplayer for halo 2 and 3 (best for 3) and that also has co-op. and I got the pro and it comes with a mic, ethernet cord, 1 controller power and AV cables. and to play multiplayer you need xbox live which costs money. your hard-drive should have 1 free month. Also a warning xbox 360's break a lot. mine just did, all new 360's come with a 1 year warranty. and a 3 year for a certain crash. and if you get that certain crash your warranty restarts to three years i think.
