Can you upgrade your melee attack in Halo 3?

Cause it seems like people that i've played have there's upgraded if they can literally shoot you once and then use the melee and kill you.

i know how you feel, and no, there is no melee upgrade. it seems like everytime i melee someone, they kill me regardless of timing. it just takes practice and luck. whoever gets the first shot off before a melee attack usually depends on whose gonna die when hit. plain and simple. 2 assualt rifles= whoever shot their opponent first will most likely get the kill cuz the opponents shield was depleted or damaged BEFORE he got his shot off, therefore he's gonna die when hit. BUT, lets say each of you has a different gun. you have an assault rifle vs. your opponents shotgun. you both get shot at medium/ close range and live, only to try to finish each other off with melee. your opponent will kill you hands down at close range because the shotgun damaged you significantlly more than your assault rifle did. however, at medium range, you could have drained you opponents shield before he could yours if he fired too soon with his shotgun, therefore giving you the advantage in a melee kill. unless he gets another shot off. then you're dead. its bungies balancing system they did for all the weapons and attacks. you just have to realize what situation youre in and analyze what to do with what you've got for the best results
