I just beat Halo 3 and saw the ending as well as the legendary ending. In the legendary ending MasterChief says to Cortana " wake me up when u need me." Does that mean that the UNSC just hasn't found Masterchief and Cortana? Could they possibly still be alive just drifting in space...is that what happend? I also didn't see any proof regarding Masterchief's death..so he might still be alive...right?

of course hes alive in the E3 convntion they said they should be releasing another halo around fall 2009- winter 2010
Beat the level "Halo" on Legendary
You will get an extra scene of the half of the ship hurling towards an unknown planet
They are not dead, they are just in cryosleep.
The UNSC assumes theyre dead because they can't find them.
And it will be the end to the Halo series, as the halos are officially done for. A new series with the same characters is still possible, but unlikely.
