Halo 3 Katana?

Once I finished Halo 3 on Legendary, I went straight back to the same level (halo) I had the chance to do it with beam swords but my stupid friend turned of the console. When you finish it do you get the Katana?

Also Do I have to finish it on Legendary again to have the chance on halo with beam swords?
