Halo 3 live problems!?

ok first when i talk to people on the mic i hear them out of the tv and i hate it cuz it skips over what they are saying, so how do i make it to were i can hear them out of my ear piece

second sometimes i have to plug the mic in and out so i can hear people talking

and third i cant hear myself talking should i be able to?
