Halo 3 Multiplayer Orb?

if your playin against each other in halo 3 and u press up on the d-pad u become some sort of orb thing. what is this

The Forge map editor, the orb they turn into is the oracle from the campaign. In the oracle form they can add stuff like boxes or vehicles or weapons to the map to make your own custom games.
