Halo 3 ODST: 2+ players in firefight locally?

Is it possible to play with three or four players in firefight mode locally on Halo 3 ODST? Two players works fine but when those two have signed in it says "2 players (2max)" and a third player can't log in. Is 2+ firefight only possible online/system link?
