Halo 3 on xbox live, I got a question, easy 10 points.?

While Im playing on xbox live at halo 3, some characters players look different like mine is a master chief I think but others would look like a wolf or something.
How can I change my character, or do I have to do something first?
and could you give me a list of the characters and what I have to do to use them.

You can change your characters appearance in the settings menu that comes up when you press start. You have to change tabs, but then you will see the menu to change your appearance.

Some armor isn't available to start off with, but can be unlocked by playing the game and completing different tasks.

press start and go across, it will have a list of different armour.
and you can change your emblem too

You can choose between playing as a spartan or as an elite

You can change this in your settings in the game menu.

You can also however customise your armour, different types of armour are unlocked by doing certain achievements
