How do I play halo 3 on xbox live?

I know it's matchmaking, but when I select "open party", nobody joins even if I wait for a long time.

I know this is noobish haha, but thanks for help

You have to make sure your network is set to xbox live. its either network or server. I know it has to be set on xbox live instead of system link or whatever other choices there are.
