How to get skill (that's skill) points in Halo 3?

What you do is play ranked games. Anything that gives you a level that level is youre skill. You don't get skill just for playing though you have to win a certain amount of games to increase your skill by a point. Accordingly if you lose a certain amount of games your skill will decrease by a point. The skills range from 1-50.
