How to win a a shotty battle in Halo 3?

Ok when 2 people are running straight at each other with shottys in halo 3, what is the strategy to win? Shotty melee faster? Melee first? Melee last? etc.

if you shoot them in the head when you are close it is an instant kill!

1 shot with the shotty does the same dmg close range as a melle attack.

Best bet is to run backwards shoot off a shot with the shotty change to BR or assault Rifle and finish him off.


The only way to win a battle of 2 shottys is to have faster reflexes.

I say shoot, than melee.

My trick is to run around the other person in a circle. Because they are expecting a head on attack from you. So if you run around them, they aren't prepared for a side attack. It takes practice though.

And most times I use the Shotty-Whack Method. Shoot, then melee. It is very effective, and has become an involuntary reflex.
