I'm new to the xbox 360 and jsut got my xbox live membership on halo 3 but how do i join a room can i only play with people in my friends because it seems i can only make rooms.

You can only join a room if you've been invited by another player. You can also host your own room and invite your friends into with you. Also, if you have a valid Xbox Live Gold Membership you can play multiplayer matches with people all over the world. To do this, go to the Multiplayer lobby, select a playlist, then press Start Match. Good luck, and happy gaming.
