can i just jump in to HALO 3?

I have never played halo 1 or 2 and am considering getting halo 3 simply because it looks cool, i'm interested in the hype, and only have 2 games for my 360 so far. i've heard from a few places that the halo series has a some what "epic" story plot. basically, what i'm asking is- do you think i should play the first two games before jumping into the 3rd one or will i be fine to just pick up and start at 3? id like to have someone that has played the 3rd game give a response, but all are welcome.

Well i havn't played the third one but i have played the first 2. halo is more well known for it's online play but the story is fairly interesting too. I would just go to wikipedia and read the plot of the first to games first then dive right into halo 3..........best of luck!

No one plays it for it's story... it's anything but epic. Online Play is what halo is all about. So jump right in.

i have halo1 and 2 and halo 3 is supposed to be here tommorow and i have beaten either of them but im still gonna just finish halo 3 before i do ive watched other people play the first 2 and beat them....alos i have played the third game with my friend a while back and i would get it and start playing as quiick as posible
