Can you play Halo 3 multiplayer online with 2 players on 1 console?

Can I play Halo 3 online with a friend on the same console? I only have 1 xbox live membership account but i want to play online with my friends sitting beside me.

Sometimes ive seen players like this: gamertag, gamertag(1), gamertag(2) etc.
If so, how do I set it up?

Yes you can, your online account and three other players. It can only be played in non-ranked matches. To set it up, before you start matchmaking, have everyone press the center button on the controller and press A to join. After that sign in as "Guest" and have fun playing!
