Connecting 2 laptops in Halo Combat Evolved multiplayer?

My sibling and i both have halo on our laptops and we were trying to connect to each other via LAN but we don't know how to do it. Can someone help?
I tried but it didnt connect the two and do you have a way to set up the LAN eo the computers

Click multiplayer in the home screen, then under create game, click LAN. On the other computer, click LAN under join game, click refresh and then select the game you just made.
