Halo 1 (PC) wont run?

I have Halo 1 for the PC and I have had it for a long time, I used to play it all the time and it worked perfectly, BUT I recently got a second monitor, it is a widescreen, while my secondary one (the one i used to run Halo on.) is standard 4:3. When I try to start Halo up on my widescreen as my primary it starts up and then disappears and hides my cursor, I hear the music and it says it is open, but I see my desktop, I have to then press the windows key and close it, BUT for some reason if I make my other monitor primary it will run, it is obviously a matter of widescreen compatibility but I have yet to find a solution, someone help.
yes i do have a video card, it is a PNY Verto 9600gt
nevermind... I changed the compatibility mode to XP service package 2 and it worked... go figure.
