At the end of the last level the cheif and the arbiter take of from Halo/The Ark in the dawn , the cheif stays in the landing area while the arbiter runs to the front of the ship and flys it , they make it threw the portal just as the ring fires but the ship ends up being cut in half . The arbiters half of the ship crashes into the ocean on earth where he is saved , but him lord hood and every one else thinks the cheif is dead . While this is happening the cheif wakes up after being knocked out from the ring firing , cortona then tells him that the arbiter is dead because the front of the ship is missing ,she then tells him that she is dropping be-con to send for help but it might take years befor anyone finds them , The cheif then climbs into a sleep chamber tells cortona to wake him when hes needed and goes to sleep . ( Extra Ending) You then see the back half of the dawn floating in space , the background then lights up showing that the ship is heading towards a planet
