Halo 3 or Gears of War 2?

I am about to get my first ever xbox system and i want to get a good online action game. I have heard from friends that people either play Gears of War (and eventually the second one coming out) or halo 3. I have been to a friends house and played halo 3 and i think it is a great game, but how does it compare to Gears of War. Thanks for your opinions.
--And yes i do realize i can get both but what makes each one good/better

I would say you should get Halo from the two options you provided, but if you're looking for a really good 360 fps you should buy Call of Duty 4. It never gets boring. The weapon upgrades bring novelty every time you play the game and the graphics and sound are very impressive. The campaign story is also very entertaining and create a great gaming experience. The multiplayer is insane and contains many different game types. I really recommend this game.

GET HALO 3, way better gameplay and also they are coming out with maps this fall so you can definitely see that this is an everlasting multiplayer. Gears of war really fun but gets redundant after a while same hack and slash shit and not a lot of different modes like CTF and oddball, if i were you i would choose halo3. but its your choice
