Halo 3? What the hell is going on?!?!?

Ok. So i was playing call of duty one day and i got bored. i decided to play Halo 3 for a while. So i put in the disc and the game comes up. All of a sudden i see a update, so well i say yes and the game is like TOTALY changed. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?!??! Now i find out there is a new game coming up, new maps, and other stuff i havent heard of! Can someone PLEASE fill me up with all the new Halo 3 NEWS!?!?!? And also, i see that there are new achievements, It says do something on the 7th day of the month. !WTF!?!?!?!?!? How can i do the achievements that rely on DATE? im REALLLLLY confused. Please fill me up on this.

EDIT: The achievemtent that supposedly says you have 7 days to complete it is probably just for fun. But it wouldn't hurt to try it
