How do I unlock Sergeant Johnson for firefight mode in Halo 3 ODST?

I bought Halo 3 ODST the moment it was released, and I got the Sergeant Johnson code, entered it and downloaded Sergeant Johnson, but I can't use him in Firefight. What did I do wrong?

(I was the first person in Mount Isa to get a copy of ODST lol!)

now that you have put the code in all you have to do is activate it turn it on, just like the tux in the conduit which that game sucks and was a BIG disappointment

Nice job, Chris, on getting the first copy! There should be a menu that shows you where to put the code. Other than that, read the instructions on the back, and if you're still confused, ask someone at Gamestop.
