How do you block the sword on Halo 3 online?

Okay bear with me, I know very little of the game - its my husband who is the fanatic. But he is getting very frustrated when he is playing online -- the one where everyone has those blue swords... and when he and another guy battle with each other, the other guy seems like he is able to block my husband, and then kills him. If thats possible, how do you do that? Thanks!

You cant the only way is if you lunge at the same time and they both must have the sword.

only thing i know is that theres sometimes a way to dodge the sword, thta's probaly what happened, usually by like walking to the side as they lunge

The other player isn't blocking him, he just pulled the trigger at the same time as him. It's an upgrade from Halo2. Before, if two players were dueling swords and they pulled at the same time, they would fly past each other. Now when that happens, the swords lock and stun both players. you just need to back up and throw a grenade.
