i just got back on halo 3 since november. new maps?

i cant play slayer because i dont have the maps.
how do i play ranked slayer!

Download the free mappack to play slayer..

They have released two mappacks.

The heroic mappack was recently made free, so go to xbox live marketplace through the halo 3 menu to get that (most playlists require that now.)

The legendary mappack was just recently released, and goes for 800 Microsoft points. The legendary mappack is only required for team swat, at the moment.

There are two packs available through the xbox live marketplace right now, the Heroic map pack and the Legendary map pack. As of right now, the Heroic map pack is free to anyone who wants it. Which is good, because you need that one to play in some of the matchmaking playlists (MLG, Team Slayer, and Ranked BTB, as well as some others). But it's a free download, so it's really a no-brainer that you should download it.

The other pack, the Legendary pack, is NOT free, and Bungie has hinted that it may never become free either. You need that pack to play in either of the DLC playlists, as well as in Team SWAT and any of the weekend playlists. I personally have purchased them and really have enjoyed them, but since it sounds like you don't play Halo 3 all that often, it's up to you whether or not it's worth it to pay 800 MS Points for them.
