In Halo 3 what do i do with the Skulls once i have one in my hand?

i do not know what to once i have the skull in my hand.

It shouldunlock that skull for use as well as an acheivement...you can just drop it...unless you want to carry it around with you...it makes a nice beatdown weapon...
