What makes halo 3 so good?

Many of my friends have halo 3. I have never tried it live but I do not know if it is worth paying 60 dollars for it. I have a 360 w/ xbox live gold. Can someone tell me why halo 3 is so good? Or is it even that good?

Depends if you like FPS's. If you do then it kicks so much arse, you should get it, it's worth every penny. Its just generally quite bloody good.
