why does everone care so much about halo 3?

I own both halo games because everyone recomended them, but their just a waste of time. I belive they are boring and the only to get good at it is to spend hours playing it while you could be doing somthing more productive, why does everyone like it so much?

someone pleese tell me how you can live with yourselfs degrading society by shooting at imaginary objects all day.

Yes, Halo 3 has lots of hype, maybe too much hype, but the reason is because it's online multiplayer is probably the BEST multiplayer of any game on the Xbox 360. It may not appeal to you, and that's alright, but some people absolutely adore the online mode, and that's because Microsoft has spent to much time perfecting it, and has had so much trial and error (Halo 1 and 2) that they almost have perfected it.
