I never saw the old logo, but I like this one very much. The details don't detract from the text, but they add a nice touch.

The old logo does look cool, i like it but there is room for improvement.
Im not good at photoshop myself, but i think a logo with a bit more vibrant colours , but the same simplicity that this one has would be nice.
